Reviving Classical Painting through Digital Photography

The digital imaging revolution has allowed photographer Rob Porter to reinvent the classical still life painting. Rob’s current work features beautiful floral arrangements captured with his digital camera. He employs Photoshop to refine color and texture, producing vivid compositions evocative of classical painters as they might be interpreted by photographers like Jan Sudek and Robert Mapplethorpe. 

Rob’s interest in arranged compositions grew from fashion photography he began doing to support his wife’s clothing design business. Photographing models in the studio setting kindled an interest in arranged compositions and inspired him to capture beauty in all its guises of shape, color and texture. 

His artistry has evolved dramatically in the decades since he began shooting analog photographs and honing his skills in a black and white darkroom.
