Instances in Nature that Feed the Soul

Painter Ann Guidera-Matey extracts breathtaking moments in nature that it takes a true artist to find in a landscape.

Working chiefly in pastels, Ann captures the sacred in scenes that replenish the spirit, finding inspiration in Queen Anne’s Lace floating across a field, the setting sun or the rhythm of boat masts reflected in quiet waters in settings from the Brandywine River Valley to Maine to Italy.

Having worked as an arts administrator at the Philadelphia Museum of Art and as a painter for 25 years, Ann has honed a technique in which she applies pastels to a panel under painted with acrylic and then primed with a pumice gel mixture that adds texture to the composition.
